2019 A Year In Review

Published: 01/05/2020 | Time To Read:6mins

Howdy, everyone, it's Chris. I thought I'd take a bit of time and review my previous year, what I accomplished and what I hope to accomplish in the coming year. But rather than do like I've done on month in review posts I thought I'd start out with the personal side, talking about relationships and things I've done non-professionally for once. If you're ready to let's get to it!

Personal Life

Over the past year, a lot has changed, but even more, has remained the same and honestly, I'm okay with that. My relationship with my girlfriend has improved drastically, having never been in a relationship with someone lasting longer than a month or two at most I had a lot of things to learn what to do and not to do if wanted to make the relationship really last and be strong. Never having been in a long term relationship there were many things I took for granted and had to be set straight on, but it also helped me grow as an individual and pursue what really mattered to me, things that I could carry over into my professional life.

One thing I've always been bad about is giving up when the going gets tough. I'll be the first to admit it. So many times over the years I've given up on jobs just for the fact that they got boring, or I didn't like people there and just simply said the heck with this place and walked out. My relationship though has taught me that this isn't the way, you have to push through no matter what as I now look into the future and the things that we want to do or are in the process of doing for our future not just what I considered to be a bleak outcome.

While I'm not happy that I'm still at the same dead-end job that I've been at for a few years now I go in each day with a smile on my face, even if pretend while I continue to build myself up to get out of there and start my own business, this business to be exact. Which brings me to my goals for 2020!

2020 Goals:

  1. Get my car paid off
  2. Get a place with my girlfriend
  3. Work on building up a client base and take on freelance jobs till I can be self-sufficient with it

How do I achieve these goals? Well, I guess really I should be working backward on that list as number three is really my starting point. To make the first two objectives easier to handle I am committing myself to make at least one bid on a freelance contract per week, every week till I get something, then from there as time allows depending on the project and time constraints. I will have a weekly checkoff list to make sure I've done this. It doesn't take that long after all.

The other two come naturally from there, with money earned from freelance work I'll be able to put additional cash towards paying off my car. I don't owe that much and I cannot wait to get out from under that debt even if it means new debt in the form of a house, something that will actually have a positive impact on my and my girlfriend's life.

I hate that I can't really show off part of my hobbies as that part of the website hasn't been finished yet, by that I mean photo galleries. This past year I took every opportunity I had to take pictures and explore parks and go hiking, something we plan to do much more this coming year and I'm so excited about it. But I can't help but share a few pics! Boot LakeTurtle

This year we plan to visit Tennesse and that will be such a photo adventure waiting to happen. Too bad I most likely won't' have my new camera by then, but even still I'll lug my current along to capture what I can till that happens.

Kicking over to the model side this past year turned out to be a lot bigger than I had expected. In the final year of the decade, I finished out 27 builds ranging in scale and subject matter. I learned a lot over the past year and while my attempts at weathering for realism still fall well short of where I'd love to be at I've tackled much more complex and detailed kits over the past year and I think that's leading me to the path that I want to be on for this coming year with models.

In no particular order or anything, I'm going to list out all the models I've finished as well as a link to them for your enjoyment to see their respective build logs if there is one.
